Last night, at a meeting of Lancaster City Council’s Labour Cabinet councillors unanimously approved submitting 2018/19 draft budget proposals to full council. Despite having deal with horrendous Tory cuts, the council’s central government funding has been slashed by a third since 2010, your Labour council is still doing its best to pick up the pieces of years of Tory failure.

Proposals include funding for co-ordinating district-wide work on tackling food poverty, a crucial policy for dealing with a huge issue in our area after the botched central government roll out of universal credit, as well as significant funding for economic development measures to attract badly needed jobs to our area after we’ve been left behind by central government. As well as providing badly needed investment for our parks, the proposals also include freezing car parking and garden waste collection charges for the year, a helpful measure in a time of rising cost of living and sluggish wage growth.
