Job Descriptions of Officers

Chair

The aims of the Chair are to:

  • Deliver well run meetings of both the CLP and the Executive Committee
  • Develop an atmosphere within those meetings that is welcoming of new members, and facilitates the participation of all members
  • Build an effective and accountable team of CLP officers
  • Lead, in consultation with other officers, the production of an annual development plan for the constituency which encourages recruitment, campaigning, fund-raising, policy development and election work.

 

Secretary

The aims of the Secretary are to:

  • Facilitate the smooth operations of the CLP
  • Oversee good governance, and compliance with the law and rules of the Labour Party, and the laws applying to political parties and campaigns.

 

Treasurer  

The aims of the Treasurer are to:

  • Ensure that the CLP complies with the financial reporting rules of the Labour Party, and the laws applying to political party finances
  • Ensure that the finances of the CLP are well-managed and transparent to its members.

 

Vice-Chair (Membership)

 The aims of the Vice-Chair (Membership) are to:

  • Increase the number of party members, and the number of them who are active within the party
  • Take steps to see that the membership of the party better reflects the community
  • Develop within the membership engagement group an atmosphere that is welcoming of new members, and facilitates the participation of all members who wish to contribute to the recruitment, retention, and orientation of new members.

 

Vice-Chair (Campaigns)

The aims of the Vice-Chair (Campaigns) are to:

  • Encourage local party members and supporters to participate and play a full and active part in campaigning on a national, regional and local level
  • Develop within the campaigns action group an atmosphere that is welcoming of new members, and facilitates the participation of all members who wish to contribute to the development and delivery of both party campaigns, and campaigns within the community.

 

Political Education & Policy Co-ordinator

The aims of the PEP Co-ordinator are to:

  • Encourage local party members and supporters to participate and play a full and active part in policy making at a national, regional, and local level
  • Create opportunities for members to deepen their political education and policy knowledge.

 

Women’s Officer

The aims of the Women’s Officer are to:

  • Encourage women to join the party, and to play a full and active part in the party’s activities
  • Build links with women in the wider electorate through campaigning, engaging on policy issues and two-way communication
  • Ensure that the priorities of the constituency reflect the views and concerns of women members and women in the wider community.

 

Youth & Student Officer

The aims of the Youth & Student Officer are to:

  • Encourage young people to join the party, and play a full and active part in the party’s activities
  • Build links with young people in the wider electorate through campaigning, engaging on policy issues and two-way communication
  • Ensure that the priorities of the constituency reflect the views and concerns of youth members and young people in the wider community.

 

Ethnic Minorities Officer

The aims of the Ethnic Minorities officer are to:

  • Encourage people from ethnic minorities to join the party, and play a full and active part in the party’s activities
  • Build links with ethnic minority communities in the wider electorate through campaigning, engaging on policy issues and two-way communication
  • Ensure that the priorities of the constituency reflect the views and concerns of ethnic minority members and ethnic minorities in the wider community.

 

Fundraising Officer

The aims of the Fundraising Officer are to:

  • Ensure that the CLP has a realistic plan to achieve its fundraising targets
  • Encourage local members to participate in both regular giving and one off fundraising activities
  • Develop within the fundraising group an atmosphere that is welcoming of new members, and facilitates the participation of all members who wish to contribute to the development and delivery of fundraising campaigns and activities.

 

Information Technology & Communication Officer

The aims of the IT&C Officer are to:

  • Strengthen the communication channels of the CLP and branches with both party members, and members of the public
  • Develop within the IT&C group an atmosphere that is welcoming of new members, and facilitates the participation of all members who wish to contribute to the development of members’ communication skills, and ensures that the CLP communicates effectively with members, and the public.

 

Disabilities Officer

The aims of the Disabilities Officer are to:

  • Encourage people with disabilities to join the party, and play a full and active part in the party’s activities
  • Build links with people with disabilities in the wider electorate through campaigning, engaging on policy issues and two-way communication
  • Ensure that the priorities of the constituency reflect the views and concerns of people with disabilities in the wider community.

 

LGBT Officer

The aims of the LGBT Officer are to:

  • Encourage Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people to join the party, and play a full and active part in the party’s activities
  • Build links with LGBT people in the wider electorate through campaigning, engaging on policy issues and two-way communication
  • Ensure that the priorities of the constituency reflect the views and concerns of LGBT people in the wider community.

 

Trade Union Liaison Officer

The aims of the Trade Union Liaison Officer are to:

  • Act as liaison between local trade union branches and the CLP
  • Ensure that the priorities of the constituency reflect the views and concerns of trade unionists
  • Encourage trade union members to join the party, and play a full and active part in the party’s activities
  • Encourage CLP members to join in trade union campaigns.
